Animax adds execs

Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks Asia has upped execs as Animax emerges from AXN’s shadow.

Wong Yan-Jong is upped to executive director in charge of programming at AXN Asia. Betty Tsui, veep of Animax Asia, will oversee that channel’s expansion.

Launched as a niche anime channel in 2004, Animax Asia gained carriage deals via its older sibling AXN Asia. But its image makeover in June makes it a lifestyle channel in its own right.

SPE TV staffers from programming, marketing and creative services, who reported centrally, now will work for either AXN or Animax.

Animax team is beefed up with new hires, including marketing director Judy Chow and associate director for programming Garry Hui. Shyanne Chao joins SPE Networks Asia as affiliate marketing manager.
