Exec upped as 'celebreality' propels primetime ratings
VH1 has promoted Michael Hirschorn to exec VP of original programming and production, a new post.
Before Hirschorn joined VH1 in July 2001, he was editor-in-chief of Inside.com. Earlier in his career, Hirschorn was editor-in-chief of Spin magazine and executive editor of New York magazine.
What VH1 calls “celebreality” TV series such as “The Surreal Life,” “Breaking Bonaduce” and “My Fair Brady” has propelled VH1’s primetime ratings into the top-30 cable networks in total viewers, soaring by 15% in 2005.
Net climbed into the primetime top 20 in VH1’s two main demographic categories, rising by 17% in adults 18-34 and by 13% with adults 18-49.
