Sensory overload was the theme Saturday at Nickelodeon’s 19th annual Kids Choice Awards.
Ten thousand children filled UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion for the Jack Black-hosted kudocast, and 10,000 high-pitched, high-decibel screams resonated in the echoey gym at every mention of a celebrity (except, notably, the Backstreet Boys).
The stage was decked out in Monty Python-esque psychedelia, including a graphic of a giant pointing finger that was applied to everything from nominees’ names to Robin Williams‘ nose.
Chris Rock received the Wannabe Award, given to the celebrity whom kids most want to be. Of his own childhood aspirations, he said, “When I was a kid, I wanted to be Eddie Murphy, and now I’m a ripoff of Eddie Murphy.”
