MADRID — There’s more to Cannes (the fest) than Cannes (the place). Madrid, for example, has already started its own Cannes: Its central FNAC department store emblazoned its facades with huge black-and-white photos of stars walking up the Palais steps. Stephane Kossmann’s candid snaps — which went up May 11 — were draped over the building around Cannes during the 2004 fest, then exhibited at the Arclight Theater in Los Angeles during 2004’s AFM. “The idea to exhibit at Madrid’s FNAC came from Pedro Almodovar, who held his own photo exhibition there,” said Kossmann. Almodovar’s photo is probably one of the best: a mop of bull-black hair, a touch of a smile, gently quizzical eyes, noting the Cannes premiere pandemonium.
