Escandell promoted to head of publicity
Sony Pictures Releasing Intl. has promoted Cathy Escandell to VP of publicity, acquisitions and local productions.
Escandell, who reports directly to Sal Ladestro, senior VP of marketing, acquisitions and local productions for SPRI, was formerly senior publicist with the division.
She will be responsible for the planning and execution of all publicity activity on the international releases of films from Sony Pictures Classics, TriStar Pictures and Screen Gems, as well as from the local Sony production units within the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, including those in East Asia, Spain, Brazil, Italy and the U.K.
Among her recent achievements, Escandell oversaw the international publicity campaign for the international release of Stephen Chow’s “Kung Fu Hustle.” She also handled the international launch of “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” at the 2005 Venice Film Festival and its subsequent publicity campaign.
Escandell will now focus her attention on the international publicity campaigns for SPRI’s 2006 slate, which includes “Capote,” “The Squid and the Whale” and “The White Countess.”
Escandell joined SPRI in December 2000 as a junior publicist. Previously she worked at Alliance Atlantis in international marketing and publicity.
