‘Snakes’ & circumstance

Web fave slithers into theaters

HOLLYWOOD — It wasn’t so much a premiere as a graduation Thursday when “Snakes on a Plane” jumped from blogosphere darling to theatrical release with a Chinese Theater launch.

Pic had a 9 p.m. call time to level the Internet world playing field. Idea was that preemgoing bloggers would see the film at the same time as the rest of the country and those so disposed could blog simultaneously.

At the party on the ArcLight’s rooftop, star Samuel L. Jackson was asked if the over-the-top comedy/thriller could be described as “Airplane!” meets “Anaconda.”

“No,” said Jackson. “We have better snakes.”
