Rupert Murdoch-owned paybox Sky Italia has pacted with Italo multimedia group L’Espresso to carry its local MTV rival All Music plus several radio stations.
Sealed one month after Italy’s center-left government replaced Silvio Berlusconi’s conservative coalition, the deal is strategically significant as Gruppo L’Espresso owns leftist daily La Repubblica and newsweekly L’Espresso.
L’Espresso group is controlled by financier Carlo De Benedetti — one of Berlusconi’s business and political rivals.
MTV’s main competish in Italy, All Music is headed by former Endemol exec Elisa Ambanelli, the only femme topper of an Italo web. It benefits from synergies with the group’s top-rated national radio stations Radio Capital and Radio DeeJay, which are part of the Sky Italia package.
