News Corp. has acquired a stake in a small Polish net owned by a Warsaw brotherhood of Franciscan monks.
News Corp. is taking over TV PULS from Ster, a company closely aligned with Polish net Polsat.
The Franciscan Province now owns 51% of shares, while a minority stake of 49% is owned by TV Inwestycje, of which News Corp. owns 50%.
TV PULS airs mainly family-oriented and religious content. Plan is to further develop the net while maintaining its Christian ethos.
Ewan Mirylees, senior VP for News Corp. Europe said: “TV PULS was looking for assistance from a strategic partner. We are delighted to have become that partner. We expect to expand the coverage and distribution of TV PULS.”
Mirylees said News Corp. had no plans to expand the net’s reach to other countries, but added: “Both the Polish television market and TV PULS have significant potential for development.”
