WHAT: Opening for hair-metal musical “Rock of Ages.” High-decibel riff on the 1980s Sunset Strip stars Laura Bell Bundy and spoof-rockers Kyle Gass (Tenacious D) and Dan Finnerty (The Dan Band).
WHO: Rockers Tom Morello of Audioslave and Perry Farrell from Jane’s Addiction; plus thesps Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Coolidge and Jennifer Finnigan.
WHERE: Hollywood’s Vanguard Theater on Saturday.
THEN AND NOW: As a child, director Kristin Hanggi wanted to rock, but her parents had other ideas. “To them, Guns N’ Roses was the devil’s music,” she said.
Meanwhile, Gass spent the ’80s in L.A., but the Strip wasn’t his scene. “I was against the whole hair-metal thing,” Gass said. “I was probably into something stupid like jazz,” he joked.
THE CUT MAKES THE MAN: Asked what put the swagger in his character’s step, Finnerty said wardrobe propped him up. “It’s the wig, man,” he said. “Once the mullet goes on, it’s all magic.”
