BERLIN — Haim Saban’s ProSiebenSat 1 is continuing its expansion into Internet business with a 30% acquisition of Lokalisten Media, which operates lokalisten.de, one of Germany’s leading social networks.
Move follows a 30% stake in the YouTube-like video Web site MyVideo last month.
ProSiebenSat 1 topper Guillaume de Posch said the latest acquisition means the broadcaster “now has a service for the MySpace generation. The social network is an excellent addition to our online world. Internet communities reconcile two opposites: They generate the same user figures as mass media, while their pattern of use is individual and interactive.
“That’s what makes them attractive for a content provider such as the ProSiebenSat.1 group.”
Founded in 2005, lokalisten.de has become one of Germany’s leading social networks, currently boasting some 325,000 members with about half logging in daily onto the site.
With regionally-oriented communities, the platform offers members the opportunity to meet online or at live events organized by members.
