Giordana targets Fascist star pair

Italo helmer Marco Tullio Giordana (“Best of Youth”) will tackle the true tale of Fascist-era movie star couple Osvaldo Valenti and Luisa Ferida in a potentially controversial TV biopic.

Project is being shepherded as a two-parter by “The Caiman” producer Angelo Barbagallo, in co-production with RAI Fiction.

Valenti and Ferida had stellar careers under Benito Mussolini’s regime but were shot dead at the end of WWII in 1945 by partisans angered by their Fascist connections. Valenti was 39 and Ferida, 31.

“It’s a story with lots of glamour and tragedy; full of human interest that transcends politics,” said Barbagallo, who described Valenti as a “fanatic Fascist and a coke head.” He will be played by Luca Zingaretti, star of RAI drama “Montalbano”; Ferida is still being cast.

Ferida was the star of Alessandro Blasetti’s 1940 hit epic “The Iron Crown.”

As for “Caiman” helmer Nanni Moretti, Barbagallo said that after “Caiman” he is penning his first comedy.
