As the worldwide chiefs of the music departments at agencies William Morris and Creative Artists, Peter Grosslight and Rob Light, respectively, oversee 90% of the industry’s top touring artists. And with concert industry revenues up 38% in the first six months of 2006 to $1.012 billion for the top 100 tours, both agencies are seemingly printing money with their hugely successful roadshows from clients like Bon Jovi, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, Sheryl Crow, Brooks & Dunn and Luis Miguel. “Because of the terrific health of the live business, I think the agency music division is more of a focal point and critical to an artist’s development,” says Grosslight, “and that maybe hasn’t been the case for quite some time.”
P.O.V.: “We win by understanding that every new generation will be the most marketed-to generation of all time, so we need to talk to them differently and more intelligently,” Light told a Pollstar confab.
