'Something' arises in H'wood

WHO: Tyro helmer Sanaa Hamri; topliners Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker; producer Stephanie Allain and writer Kriss Turner; plus guests Prince and Queen Latifah

WHERE: Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome (screening); the Cabana Club (after-bash)

MILESTONES: Evening held special meaning for Hamri and Allain, who also produced “Hustle & Flow.” “New” bowed one year to the day after “Flow” preemed at Sundance. For Hamri, the belle of the after-ball, pic signifies the prevalent musicvid helmers foray into the feature arena.

NEW INDEED: Focus honcho James Schamus came down from “Brokeback Mountain” to launch the romancer. “It’s a new year,” he said. “New stories to tell. New talent (like Hamri) to discover. New possibility.”
