NBC getting into game

Eye pulls 'Waterfront'; Peacock picks up more 'Lights'

CBS is off the “Waterfront,” while NBC has ordered 10 additional episodes of new gamer “1 vs. 100.”

Also Wednesday, NBC picked up nine additional scripts for “Friday Night Lights,” from exec producers Peter Berg, Brian Grazer, Jason Katims, Sarah Aubrey and David Nevins.

Over at the Eye, “Waterfront” was originally slated for midseason. But with few holes to fill on its sked, CBS execs decided to pull the plug on the drama from Warner Bros. TV.

Jack Orman created the skein, which starred Joe Pantoliano as the mayor of Providence, R.I. William Baldwin, Mary Stuart Masterson and Larenz Tate also starred.

Four episodes, plus the pilot, of “Waterfront” had already been shot. Insiders said net execs weren’t completely pleased with the show’s direction; without a pressing need to schedule it, the net decided to pass.

Meanwhile, NBC has now committed to a total of 15 episodes of Endemol USA’s “1 vs. 100.”

Pickup comes after gamer impressed in its debut Friday, scoring a 4.2 rating/13 share in adults 18-49 — the net’s best perf in that Friday timeslot since 2002.

Bob Saget hosts the show, in which one player battles 100 people by answering trivia questions for a shot at winning $1 million. Scott St. John exec produces.

“This was an ‘odds-on’ easy decision,” said NBC’s Craig Plestis, senior VP, alternative and West Coast specials programming and development.

As for “Friday Night Lights,” the show from NBC Universal and Imagine TV has earned rave reviews but has struggled in its Tuesday night slot.

To that end, NBC will test out an original episode of “Friday Night Lights” on Monday, Oct. 30, at 10 p.m., replacing a repeat seg of “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” That episode will then repeat the following night in the show’s normal Tuesday 8 p.m. slot.

“Lights,” which stars Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, revolves around a small Texas town and the impact high school football has on its residents.
