National Geographic is set to launch its first production company outside the U.S.
Change Prods. will specialize in factual shows for U.K. and international broadcasters concentrating on such subjects as science, the natural world, history, culture, religion and archaeology.
“NGTI has diversified considerably in the past 12 months — we now represent kids’ programming, have a head of business development for digital media and continue to increase the third-party hours that we represent,” said National Geographic Intl. TV prexy Ian Jones. “We started targeting programming from independent production companies as a way of expanding our catalogue and see backing a startup company as the next logical step.”
Change will be owned by NGTI and work independently of the National Geographic Channel in the U.K. — a joint venture of BSkyB, National Geographic Ventures and NBC.
NGTI has tapped British producer Ben Goold to run Change. His credits include “The Play’s the Thing” and “Trafalgar Battle Surgeon.”
