Entertainment writer John Voland died April 3 of a heart attack in Los Angeles. He was 47.

In the 1990s, he was a reporter for Variety and a film reporter and critic at the Hollywood Reporter. He freelanced for publications including L.A. Style, Entertainment Weekly and Esquire.

During the 1980s, Voland was a staff reporter and reviewer at the L.A. Times and pop music editor at the Houston Post.

He had recently worked as a writer-consultant in the videogame world.

He is survived by a daughter, his mother, a brother and ex-wife Bonnie Voland, an entertainment publicist.
