ISB will broadcast Pan American Games

Decision follows a failed public auction in August

Intl. Sports Broadcasting, a U.S. company with expertise in covering large sports events, will be the host broadcaster of next year’s Pan American Games Rio (CO-Rio).

The decision follows a failed public auction in August and clears the way for CO-Rio to negotiate the international rights for the games that will take place in Rio de Janeiro July 13-29.

CO-Rio agreed to pay $23.3 million to ISB for the services and will contribute $8.2 million to the costs in Brazil of equipment rental and labor, which brings the total to $31.5 million.

In the August round of bidding, CO-Rio offered $25.3 million for the job, but the only other company that was interested missed the deadline.

Event officials said they chose ISB without a tender due to lack of time.

ISB will record all sports events and award ceremonies and produce two daily newscasts, which it will deliver to the nets that buy rights to the games.

The committee had hoped a local company would take on the challenge. But it became apparent that it required a firm with experience handling large-scale international events.
