Industry vet Doran dies at 96

Wife of film exec D.A. Doran

Marion A. Doran, who started her career typing scripts for Preston Sturges before marrying film exec. D.A. Doran, died Dec. 26 in Woodland Hills, Calif. She was 96.

Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 32032 W. Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village.

Born in Far Rockaway, NY, she worked at Paramount’s Long Island studios in several jobs including reviewing plays for the story department. She later became head of the play department at Columbia Pictures. During WWII, she headed the Los Angeles chapter of the Americn Women’s Voluntary Services and was active in the formative years of the Oakwood School in North Hollywood.

She is survived by her son, publicist Daniel Doran and daughter, producer Lindsay Doran.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Motion Picture and Television Fund, 22212 Ventura Blvd., Suite 300, Woodland Hills, CA 91364.
