Thesp's Seed Prods. will develop at least three scripts
Hugh Jackman is looking to shift to the small screen — but behind the camera.
Jackman has sealed a development deal with CBS to exec produce projects for the net through his Seed Prods. banner. Jackman’s Seed partner John Palermo is also attached.
Under the three-for-one commitment, Jackman and Palermo will develop at least three scripts, and the Eye will pick the best one to pilot. Jackman isn’t on tap to star in the project, which doesn’t yet have a studio attached.
“He came in to have a general meeting with us and talk about ideas, and there was such a level of enthusiasm on his part that we quickly jumped at the opportunity,” said CBS Entertainment prexy Nina Tassler. “Working with Hugh gives us the opportunity to develop a wide range of projects — perhaps some comedy, drama, longform, or variety. He wants to be very hands on.”
“CBS is the perfect home for our TV deal,” Jackman said, adding that he and Palermo “have been overwhelmed and inspired” by the support of Tassler.
“We hope to utilize the talent and relationships we’ve cultivated in the film community as well as get to know other talented artists in the TV arena as we develop our shows,” Palermo said.
Seed Prods. has been busy on the film side, where the company is set up at 20th Century Fox. Shingle is developing a remake of the musical “Carousel” to serve as a star vehicle for Jackman; it is also producing drama “The Tourist.”
Jackman’s currently onstage in Australia for a brief run in “The Boy From Oz.”
