FremantleMedia has promoted Gary Carter to the new post of chief creative officer, new platforms. He had been senior exec VP of worldwide entertainment.
Move is a step toward filling the gap left by last week’s surprise departure of new platforms CEO Catherine Mackay. Based in New York, Mackay had been at the “American Idol” producer for 10 years.
Carter will be responsible for creating new brands and concepts for new platforms including mobile, broadband, game consoles and Internet protocol TV.
Following the appointment of Simon Spalding to the new post of director of operations, Asia Pacific, Carter also has been tapped acting CEO of FremantleMedia licensing worldwide. He will be responsible for exploiting FremantleMedia’s brands offscreen and developing products and promotions.
Based in London and Amsterdam, Carter, who has worked previously at U.K. indie Planet 24 and Endemol, will take up his new role immediately.
The CEO job held by Mackay remains vacant, and it is unclear if the post will be filled.
