Fremantle fits Barron

Exec in charge of multi-platforms expansion

FremantleMedia North America has named former UPN reality exec Larry Barron senior VP of programming and development.

Barron will be charged with bolstering the company’s expansion in the U.S. on broadcast, cable and syndie platforms. Fremantle is behind “American Idol” and produced “America’s Got Talent” and “American Inventor.”

Company launched its first scripted series, Lifetime’s primetime telenovela “Monarch Cove,” on Saturday.

Barron will report to chief creative officer Eugene Young.

Before joining UPN as veep of alternative programming, Barron served as a producer on “The Amazing Race” and the first season of “America’s Next Top Model.” Exec also held gigs at CNN, showbiz newsmag “Extra” and Fox series “Paradise Hotel.”
