'Threepenny' preems on B'way
In the Roundabout’s new Broadway version of “The Threepenny Opera,” Alan Cumming, starring as the charming degenerate Mack the Knife, wears ultra-tight matador pants. Cyndi Lauper, as the prostitute Jenny, wears fetish lingerie and a big fright wig. Jim Dale, as the leader of a beggars’ racket, sports a Mohawk. And a couple of buff guys wears very small, very shiny hot pants.
So Isaac Mizrahi must have had lots of fun designing those costumes.
“It was kind of a perverted thing for me,” he said after Thursday’s opening performance. “I don’t usually try to make people look like they’re in a crack house!”
