Veteran theater and TV actor Edwin C. Owens died of heart failure Sept. 16 in Fort Worth, Texas while on the road with the national tour of “On Golden Pond.” He was 64.

Owens’ career spanned nearly 50 years. He performed the role of “Big Daddy” in Broadway’s most recent revival of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, in Ned Beatty’s absence, and succeeded John Lithgow in “The Changing Room” in 1973.

On TV, he appeared on shows including “The Waltons,” “Little House on the Prairie,” “Hill Street Blues,” “General Hospital,” “Falcon Crest,” “Married with Children” and “Law and Order.”

Owens’ regional theater credits included work at the McCarter Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Guthrie Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville and the Huntington Theatre.
