Deal done for ‘Medium’ man

Echevarria inks a large pact

“Medium” exec producer Rene Echevarria has inked a large two-year, mid-seven-figure overall deal with CBS Paramount Network Television.

Scribe — who also created USA Network hit drama “The 4400” — will continue to work on “Medium” while developing his own projects for the studio. Created by Glenn Gordon Caron, CBS Par-produced “Medium” begins its third season on NBC this fall.

CBS Par TV prexy David Stapf said Echevarria has been “instrumental” in the success of the skein.

“Medium” is “working incredibly well creatively, and he’s part of the upper echelon that allows the show to work,” Stapf told Daily Variety.

Echevarria has been with “Medium” since its first season, having previously worked with Caron on “Now and Again.” Before that, he spent nearly a decade working on the “Star Trek” franchise, spending three years on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and five seasons on “Deep Space Nine.”

While there’s been a complete restructuring in the top management of CBS Par, Echevarria said the studio’s sensibilities toward talent have remained consistent.

They “give you what you need to get the job done,” he said. “It still has the same kind of culture of support.”

Scribe, who’s repped by Endeavor, plans to focus on “Medium” for the first year of his deal before turning his attention to development next year.
