Credit where credit’s due

PGA honors year's best

WHAT: The Producers Guild of America doled out this year’s crop of kudos Sunday.

WHERE: Universal Hilton in Universal City

REGULAR JOE: Milestone Award presenter Steven Spielberg characterizes recipient Clint Eastwood as: “just an ordinary guy who directs and produces films.”

“That’s the most wonderful thing about this story,” said Spielberg. “Watching Clint remain the same man he’s always been — that is to say, totally unimpressed with himself.”

Spielberg, who’s working with Eastwood on upcoming feature “Flags of Our Fathers,” added that Eastwood even waits in line for lunch on sets.

OLDEST STORY EVER TOLD: Queen Latifah, who emceed, drew big laughs during her opening remarks about the contentious credit determination process by saying, “Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are still in arbitration” about the four Gospels of the Bible.

And PGA president Kathleen Kennedy received applause after noting the guild has launched the process of properly determining who’s a producer rather that making it “an award for people who don’t actually do the job.”
