NEW YORK — CNN faithful are going to get a whole lot more of Lou Dobbs.
The news net is adding weekend editions of “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” airing at 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
In addition, Dobbs is being added to CNN’s election-night anchor team of Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and Paula Zahn.
Dobbs is in the midst of a media tour to tubthump a new book, “War on the Middle Class,” and the net is looking to build his brand of populism into its election coverage.
The net also is planning a slate of so-called “Broken Government” investigations in the run-up to the midterms, including three from Dobbs on the plight of the middle class, illegal immigration and voting machine irregularities.
Also contributing to the series will be CNN’s cast of political reporters.
“Voters have a gnawing sense that things aren’t working the right way,” said CNN U.S. prexy Jonathan Klein. “We asked them to dig a little, do some reporting and convey to our viewers what’s really going on.”
During the four days before the election, CNN will replace “Paula Zahn Now” at 8 p.m. with a fourth hour of “The Situation Room.” Zahn will join Blitzer as co-anchor for the 7-9 p.m. segment of the show.
