Several Cannes film fest regulars won’t be “Du Capping” it this year.
The Hotel du Cap has changed management, and several longtime du Cap sleepers had some rude awakenings recently.
Says one, “Everyone went to book their rooms in January, as we always did, and all indie producers were told it was sold out.”
Others who did manage to book early are worrying about what rooms they might end up with. Many du Cap vets had gotten used to staying in the same room year in, year out.
“They told me our reservations are confirmed, but they could not confirm the room number, which is so weird,” says one bizzer who made his reservation for this year at the end of last year’s fest.
Located about 30 minutes outside of Cannes, the grand villa-like hotel requires bookings for the run of the fest, and prior to this year, everyone paid for their rooms in advance — in cash.
Credit cards are now accepted – the likely reason so many studios have booked into the du Cap this year.
