Cabler’s dark side

Dying defines 2 A&E pilots

A&E has ordered two series projects that explore a person’s journey toward death.

Cabler had greenlit production on the pilots “Last Requests,” from World of Wonder, and “Six Months,” from Rivr Media. Echoing the documentary-style approach of A&E’s “Intervention” series, both projects will chronicle the final period in a person’s life.

Nancy Dubuc, A&E senior veep of alternative/comedy programming, said “Last Requests” and “Six Months” tap into the “human emotion and high stakes that are a key element in all of our real-life programming.”

“It’s rare when we get a project that incites the kind of reaction and passion that these two did,” Dubuc said. “Everyone has asked themselves about what would happen if they knew they were going to die tomorrow. These ideas explore what certain people who’ve accepted their fate do with their remaining time.”

“Last Requests” will center on people who attempt to find closure before they pass, be it through reconciling with estranged family members or walking a child down the aisle. World of Wonder’s Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”) exec produce.

“Six Months” will celebrate the lives of people with less than a year to live, and follow them as they set their lives and legacies in order. Rivr Media (“Knight School”) will produce. Rob Lundgren, Dee Haslam, Dubuc and Michael Morrison exec produce.

A&E would likely pair either or both shows, should they be picked up, with “Intervention,” which just received a third-season order last month (Daily Variety, April 26).
