Biz falls hard for ‘The One’

Bloggers, H'wood collide at book bash

HOLLYWOOD — Elizabeth and Jim Wiatt and Arianna Huffington hosted a book party Friday night for Kathy Freston at Huffington’s Brentwood home, offering a rare mix of media world High Church and Low Church.

Huffington said the she wanted “the right mixture” of bloggers (Cathy Seipp and Mickey Kaus, for example) and Hollywood (on hand were Sumner Redstone, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Michael Lynton, Albert Brooks, Nigel Sinclair, Sherry Lansing, Jim Berkus and Tom Freston).

One guest who has frequently been at Huffington’s home surveyed the crowd and said, “These guys are a lot better-heeled than the Nation crowd she usually has book parties for.”

As for the author, Freston said her book, “The One,” is about “using a relationship as a curriculum to go beyond yourself, as a vehicle of self-realization.”

While this was not the usual self-realization crowd, Freston’s short talk on the subject was well received, although some listeners might need further study. As HBO topper Chris Albrecht said: “Everyone in show business thinks they’re ‘the One.’ You mean there’s a One besides me?”
