Comedy Fest invades Sin City

LAS VEGAS — Mirthmeisters invaded Sin City Nov. 14-18 for HBO and AEG Live’s encore edition of the Comedy Festival at Caesars Palace.

Don Rickles, Bill Maher, Jimmy Kimmel, Rosie O’Donnell, Rita Rudner and Kathy Griffin blasted the Strip with punchlines as Chris Rock walked away with the comedian award.

To fete its 20th anni, “Comic Relief” returned to close out the comedy confab with a benefit hosted by Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal. Broadcast live Saturday night on TBS and HBO, it aided Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans.

After the Mardi Gras-themed opener, Crystal quipped, “Well, here we are, the only three people in America not suing Borat.”

Accepting his nod, Rock said: “Being a comedian is like being a preacher. It is kind of like a calling. I have no other talent. I’ve been able to make people laugh since I was a kid, so I’m not pointing people to aisle nine at Wal-Mart.”
