Casting director

Casting director Barbara Cohen died May 27 of breast cancer in Los Angeles. She was 53.

Born in Dallas, Cohen graduated the U. of Texas and was a social worker in Texas before entering the entertainment business.

She worked as a casting associate at Disney from 1985 to 1988. With Mary Gail Artz, she formed the Artz and Cohen casting agency in Hollywood. Among her credits as a casting director were “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Funny Bones,” “Rushmore,” “The Tailor of Panama,” “Frailty,” “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” and “The Greatest Game Ever Played.”

Cohen is survived by her husband, writer-producer Tom Huckabee, two brothers and her mother.
