After impressive week-to-week ratings growth, Bravo has ordered an extra hour of “Project Runway.”
Second season of the fashion designer competish, from Miramax TV and the Weinstein Co., ranked as the No. 1 show last week on Wednesday night in the key adults 18-49 and 25-54 demos. Most recent episode hit a series high in 18-49 (1.4 million) and delivered a robust 1.9 million overall viewers.
Bravo prexy Lauren Zalaznick decided to add a one-hour reunion special after seeing the rapid ratings build and good word of mouth for the current season, which is just six episodes into its run. Spec will air as the penultimate episode. Finale is March 8.
Reunion will bring together all the eliminated contestants — before a winner has been chosen — in what Zalaznick promises will be “more than the chatty bitchfests that are the hallmark for sour grapes reunion shows.” Spec will be more about “revealing what the contestants were thinking” and what went on behind the scenes.
Bravo greenlit a similar reunion last season but only after “Runway,” which premiered poorly, grew into the net’s biggest show. In addition, cabler supersized last year’s finale into a two-hour event. A repeat is likely, but Zalaznick said nothing has been firmed.
Given the ratings success of “Runway,” future seasons are a given. Zalaznick stressed a deal is not yet finalized. “I fully expect to greenlight (another cycle) after the final results are in,” exec said.
Magic Elves and Full Picture also produce “Runway.”
Reunion spec news arrives on the heels of Bravo’s deal with iLoop Mobile to provide “Runway”-themed ringtones and wallpapers to cell-phone users.
