ABC taps new topper for publicity

Hope Hartman has been tapped head of publicity for ABC Entertainment, a post that also makes her the chief spokeswoman for network topper Steve McPherson.

In addition to working closely with McPherson, Hartman will oversee all PR efforts for ABC’s primetime and latenight programming, including corporate publicity. She’ll report to Nichole Nichols, senior VP of entertainment communications for the Disney-ABC Television Group.

“Media exposure is a key and constant element for a television network,” McPherson said. “Hope brings a great composure and sense of strategy to our team.”

For the past few months, Hartman has been working as a consultant for ABC Entertainment via her Fingers Crossed Communications shingle. Other clients included UCLA and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.

She worked for Alphabet sibling Buena Vista Prods. from 1992-2002, overseeing PR for Regis Philbin’s daytime gabber during both the Kelly Ripa and Kathie Lee Gifford eras. She also handled publicity for the syndie version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
