LONDON — Al-Jazeera Intl.’s strategy of recruiting high-profile presenters continues with the appointment of Barbara Serra as a presenter in its London office.
The former Five News and BBC presenter was previously the only second-language English speaker to front a flagship news program on terrestrial British TV. Born in Milan, the Italian Serra spent much of her childhood in Denmark.
“Much of today’s international politics focuses on the Middle East, so it’s great to be a part of the only global news channel headquartered in the region,” Serra said.
AJI’s strategy of bringing in big names has already seen the likes of David Frost, Riz Khan and Dave Marash added to its books.
Despite much anticipation, the English-language satcaster has been beset by delays. Net was originally slated to begin broadcasting by the end of May, but that date has now been pushed back to late summer due to technical difficulties.
