AFTRA taps lead praiser

Hinrichs named director of communications

The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has tapped longtime PR exec John Hinrichs as national director of communications.

Hinrichs, who’s been senior communications specialist at the Service Employees Intl. Union, will start work Feb. 6. Based in Los Angeles, he’ll oversee AFTRA’s communications functions, including press relations, member communications, outreach and communications strategies for organizing campaigns.

Prior to his work at SEIU, Hinrichs was a principal at Next Wave Communications.

Hinrichs fills an AFTRA slot vacant since Jayne Wallace departed in 2004. Rebecca Rhine, who was assistant national exec director for strategic planning and public policy, handled many of the duties before departing last fall.
