'Christmas' present for McCarthy, Sergei
Jenny McCarthy and Ivan Sergei will topline “Mary Christmas,” an original movie for ABC Family.
Cabler has greenlit the two-hour made-for, which will premiere as part of the channel’s monthlong Yuletide franchise “25 Days of Christmas.”
McCarthy will play Mary Class, an ambitious businesswoman and daughter of Santa Claus who’s bent on modernizing Christmas. When Santa has a heart attack, she sees a window of opportunity to turn the season into Mary’s Christmas.
Sergei plays Mary’s former boyfriend, with George Wendt as Santa.
Ron Underwood (“Boston Legal”) is attached to direct from a script by Garrett Frawley and Brian Turner. Granada Film’s Steve Carr, Heidi Santelli and Jody Brockway exec produce.
Production begins in March in Calgary.
McCarthy headlined the UPN show “The Bad Girl’s Guide.” She most recently appeared in “Stacked” and “What I Like About You.”
Sergei is best known for his starring role in the WB series “Jack & Jill.” His credits include “Charmed,” “Crossing Jordan” and “Hawaii.”
