A ‘Stranger’ among us

Cast of new comedy arrive for Variety screening

WHAT: Variety‘s screening of “Stranger Than Fiction” Wednesday at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica.

WHO: Thesps Will Ferrell, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson; plus producers Lindsay Doran and Eric Kopeloff

ROLE-PLAYING: Ferrell displayed his comedic abilities when describing how he choose the part. “I was selected from over 1,000 applicants,” he said. “It was a short essay-writing contest. Mine was on what kind of animal I would be if I could be an animal — if, obviously, I wasn’t a human being. I chose the leopard, and (helmer) Marc (Forster) really responded to that.”

SELLING HERSELF: After Thompson couldn’t recall the question she’d been asked, she offered her excuse for why that was. “I’ve just been pole-dancing on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ for this movie. You know why I did it? Because I love this film. I would pole-dance without knickers on if everyone would go to see it.”
