Monday’s DGA preem of “For Your Consideration” offered a new seasonal genre: a film about actors obsessed with the Oscars that will be in theaters during the award race. Director Christopher Guest said his comedy was about the Oscars, but also “people in the arts and how precarious and fragile their lives are.
Something big like an award, for good or bad, upsets the boat.” Warner Indie topper Polly Cohen said, “Comedies always get the short end of the stick” when it comes to kudos, but she feels there is always hope.
“You’ve got Meryl Streep in ‘Prada,’ ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ ‘Borat’ and this,” Cohen said. “This year could be different.”
