NEW YORK — The book biz got a dose of glitz Oct. 10 when Donald Trump, Anderson Cooper, Lewis Black and a host of other celebs turned out to present prizes at the Quill Book Awards, the Gotham kudofest sponsored by Variety parent Reed Business Information.
Black kicked off the evening by suggesting the ceremony be halted and everyone go home. “Right now you’re all winners,” he joked in his trademark shout. “In an hour you’ll mostly all be losers.”
Event, in a spectacular underwater-themed hall at the Museum of Natural History, also featured literary heavyweights like Janet Evanovich, Judy Bloom and Dominick Dunne — and a who’s who of book biz powerbrokers.
Variety Editor-in-Chief Peter Bart and thesp Stanley Tucci presented helmer David Frankel, author Lauren Weisberger and publishers Broadway Books and Anchor Books with the frosh Variety Blockbuster Book to Film Award for “The Devil Wears Prada.”
The Quills will be aired on NBC O&Os and affiliates on Oct. 28.
