Human Spirit Awards fete goes to the dogs
HOLLYWOOD — Chinchilla wrap from Dicker & Dicker of Beverly Hills — $3,700. Trip to Hawaii and lunch on the set of “Lost” — $6,300. The love of a purebred golden retriever pup — priceless.
Well, more like $3,500, but to the crowd gathered at the Wellness Community’s eighth Annual Tribute to the Human Spirit Awards dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel, that auctioned pup was the highlight of the night.
That’s pretty steep fare considering the Community, which provides support for cancer patients and their families, put together a fundraising gala hosted by “Lost’s” Jorge Garcia and Terry O’Quinn with honorees Laura Owens and Jack Bender in attendance.
“Lost” executive producer Bender and wife Owens praised the org for support during her breast-cancer battle. But Bender didn’t claim any credit. “I’m being honored just because I married her,” he confessed.
