‘Kingdoms’ rules

Historical epic big hit at Pusan

Launch party Sunday for new historical epic “Three Kingdoms” was so slick that at least one film buyer was confused as to how he had missed the picture in the market.

“You mean it is not finished?,” he said excitedly as he realized there was still a chance to acquire rights in his territory.

Pic is skedded to lens next March with Andy Lau and Maggie Q in the starring roles. Contributing to the impression of completion, presentation in the Grand Hotel’s Khan’s Bar came with glossy artwork

and screening of a “concept trailer.”

The film’s stars and action choreographer Sammo Hung bounded up to the stage waving and connecting with the assembled bizzers as if the crowd had already seen the pic and loved it.

(The contrasting morphology of the onstage trio was an interesting footnote — wiry, lanky and larger than life.)

Pusan chief Kim Dong-ho also graced the proceedings as if film had just played a festival gala.

Industry folks included Weinstein Co.’s Bey Logan, Universal Focus’ Jason Resnick, Fortissimo’s Wouter Barendrecht, FuWorks’ San Fu Maltha and CAA China topper Peter Loehr.
