Show host Justin Timberlake and Gnarls Barkley were the biggest winners at Thursday night’s MTV Europe Music Awards held in front of 3,000 fans in Copenhagen’s Bella Center Convention Hall.
Timberlake collected male and pop awards, while Gnarls Barkley matched that haul with best song for “Crazy” and the future sounds award, voted for by their artist peers.
Other winners at the show included Depeche Mode (group), Rihanna (R&B), Christina Aguilera (female), Kanye West (hip hop), Red Hot Chili Peppers (album), while the inspirational Free Your Mind Award was this year reinvented by MTV as an on-air campaign highlighting the issue of climate change.
Madonna received three nods but was shut out of the prizes this year.
Performers included Timberlake, Rihanna, Nelly Furtado, P Diddy, Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams, the Killers, Muse, Keane and Lordi.
