Peacock pulls crucifix scenes from telecast

The show will go on — but without Madonna on a crucifix.

NBC confirmed Thursday that it will edit out controversial portions from the singer’s “Confessions” tour, which airs as a two-hour concert special on Nov. 22.

Specifically, images of Madonna hanging from a cross and wearing a crown of thorns while singing her hit ’80s tune “Live to Tell” have been cut from the telecast. The song remains, but images of other vantage points from Wembley Stadium (where the special was taped) will be edited in during the scenes in question.

Madonna remains an exec producer on the special, so it’s likely that the singer backed down from an original insistence that the scenes remain.

Religious groups had protested the scenes and called on NBC and its affiliates to excise the images.

NBC wouldn’t elaborate on the edits but in a statement confirmed that “the ‘Live to Tell’ song has been revised for NBC’s broadcast special.”
