It’s official. Almost.
The rumored takeover by MSG Entertainment of Gotham’s Beacon Theater is one step closer to reality, with a Wednesday press conference called by the Cablevision-owned company at the famous Upper West Side concert venue.
Presumably MSG, part of the entertainment empire run by the Dolan family, will officially announce its plans for the Art Deco building.
Word is that MSG Entertainment (which also runs Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall) has worked out a long-term lease for the Beacon and looks likely to shut it down for a significant amount of time to allow for major renovation of the 2,800-seat auditorium.
The consistently booked Beacon hosts an array of musical acts — from gospel choirs to the Allman Brothers to Korn — and also presents comedies aimed at African-American auds, billing itself as a favorite stop on the “Chitlin’ Circuit.”
