Less than a year after being named exec VP-general manager, Catherine Mullen is ankling music cabler Fuse.
Fuse, the fledgling network devoted to musicvideo programming, is one of Cablevision’s Rainbow Entertainment webs. Mullen joined the group from MTV U.K. and Ireland, where she served as general manager, earlier this year, replacing entertainment chief Rob Weiss. Mullen has lined up a position at another company that will be announced shortly.
Though Fuse is now available in 50 million homes, ratings declined during Mullen’s short tenure. For the third quarter, cabler averaged 21,000 viewers in primetime, down 38% from the year prior.
Under Mullen, Fuse ordered its first musicvideo-free shows, sketch comedy “The Whitest Kids U Know” and mockumentary “The P.A.” (Daily Variety, July 24), and planned the net’s first-ever tentpole event, “The Fuse Fangoria Chainsaw Awards,” airing next month.
Mullen also built up a signature skein for the network in “Pants-Off Dance-Off,” in which contestants perform striptease backed by their favorite musicvids.
