Jackson joins keynote panel at Musexpo 2006

Longtime music exec and “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson has joined the keynote panel at Musexpo 2006 on Monday at the Wyndham Bel Age Hotel.

Three-day music industry confab, now in its second year, opens with Larry King hosting the panel with Jackson, Columbia Pictures’ Lia Vollack, Universal Music Publishing’s David Renzer, Virgin Records’ Jason Flom, Napster’s Chris Gorog and Starbucks Entertainment prexy Ken Lombard.

The international music and media forum, presented by Napster and global artist discovery/development firm A&R Worldwide, will have panels Monday-Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. followed by showcases at various Sunset Strip venues.

Panels will address subjects such as artist development through film, TV, advertising and videogames; trade group efficacy; publishing; radio programming; and the state of independents. Speakers include Nettwerk founder Terry McBride, Peter Asher of Sanctuary Artist Management, Atlantic Records chairman-CEO Craig Kallman, Derek Sivers of CD Baby, House of Blues Concerts’ Alex Hodges and major execs from the fields of digital distribution, radio, mobile platforms and international music companies.

Twenty-nine bands will be performing during the week at Musexpo showcases held at the Key Club, Viper Room and Roxy. Wednesday’s Key Club show is a “Best of Britain” showcase; the rest mix U.S. performers and acts from countries such as Ghana, Australia, Canada, Portugal, Norway and Finland.
