Net to air an annual user-generated awards show
MTV2 is looking for a rock-solid connection with its audience.
Cabler is set to air an annual user-generated music and pop-culture awards show, “All That Rocks,” in which the aud votes for the nods online.
In a twist to the “American Idol” format, viewers also will be able to upload videos of themselves supporting their favorite acts that may be used as promos across the network. That feature has been developed in conjunction with iFilm.
Studio audience also will have a hand in lensing the event, as select members will be given video cameras.
Categories include music nominations such as “Freshest MC” and “There Are None Higher, Ultimate Metal God,” but pervasive gadgets such as iPods will also be up for nods in categories like “Most Critical Hardware.”
Awards show, voting procedures, aud’s self-lensing and so on are extensions of the net’s stated philosophy for total engagement with its viewers.
Show, to be hosted by Bam Margera, is set to preem in primetime on July 30.
