Dick Van Dyke is lending a hand to drum up biz for “Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life,” Rivera’s modestly selling Broadway bio.
Thesp, who co-starred with Rivera in “Bye Bye Birdie” in 1960, will make a guest appearance in “Chita” for four performances only, Jan. 24-Jan. 26.
Producers are keeping mum on exactly what he’ll be doing, but it looks likely that he’ll come on during a section in act one that addresses Rivera’s co-stars. Tony Mordente, assistant to original “Birdie” helmer Gower Champion (and Rivera’s ex-husband), has been brought on to stage the appearance.
Van Dyke was last on Broadway in a 1980 revival of “The Music Man.”
