Michael Arden, one of the lead actors in Broadway tuner “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” missed both the matinee and the evening performance Wednesday — the day before the show’s opening.
The evening outing missed by Arden, who is sick with the flu, was the second of just two press perfs for the show. Arden’s role was played by his understudy, Jason Wooten.
Thesp’s absence reps another dose of instability for the Bob Dylan-Twyla Tharp tuner, whose rocky development process included the Oct. 3 replacement of the female lead — herself a replacement for the actress who originated the role in the musical’s preem earlier this year in San Diego.
Most major legit critics saw “Times” on Tuesday night, when Arden, though ailing, managed to perform.
Due to deadlines, a few other Gotham critics needed to see the show on Wednesday despite Arden’s absence, including Jacques Le Sourd of the Journal News and David Cote of Time Out New York.
A rep for “Times” said Arden hopes to recover sufficiently to be able to perform in the show’s opening night performance tonight.
Reviews of “Times” in Gotham dailies hit newsstands Friday.
