U.K. arm casts Adam Spiegel

LONDON — In a bid to expand its leadership, the U.K. arm of pan-European live entertainment group Stage Entertainment has acquired Brit independent production company Adam Spiegel Prods.

Acquisition is part of the company’s plan to enhance its position as the predominant producer and operator of live theater in continental Europe.

Stage Entertainment already owns theaters, venues and productions throughout the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Russia, Italy, France, Poland, the U.K. and the U.S. (including Dodger Stages in New York).

The company represents shows for producers including Disney Theatricals, Really Useful Group, Blue Man Prods., Jacobsen Entertainment, Cameron Mackintosh and Littlestar. It generates annual revenue of e600 million ($768 million).

Adam Spiegel Prods., whose recent national U.K. hits include “Fame the Musical” and “Saturday Night Fever,” will provide the company with a fully operational production team. Move is expressly designed to broaden Stage Entertainment’s U.K. producing profile, currently confined to Blue Man Group’s London run and “Holiday on Ice.”

Stage Entertainment U.K. chief exec Bill Taylor, who joined the company earlier this year from Really Useful Group, believes this will create “a fantastic platform for us to produce our own shows as well as co-producing and managing shows coming to the U.K. from Broadway and other overseas markets.”

To further that aim, Chris Harper, former director of sales and marketing at London’s National Theater, has been appointed commercial director. Harper’s post at the National has been filled by Sarah Hunt.
